Compression

Compression may be used in order to reduce the size of the transferred data and increase network utilization. For slow networks, such as Ethernet, compression would be especially useful, because the time to compress the page is a small percentage of the time saved due to reduced network traffic. However, depending on the network throughput and the processor speed the exact benefits of compression may vary.
